Images of Home
The Campbell River Arts Council, in partnership with the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, is embarking on a Cultural Mapping Project. Funded through the BC Creative Communities program, the Mapping Project aims to create arts-driven opportunities for artists to engage with our community in an attempt to creatively ‘map’ who and where we are collectively.A segment of this Mapping Project will be a photo show depicting scenes of Campbell River and the surrounding area … scenes that are important to you about living here. The show is entitled: Images of Home! We received over 85 entries to this project. Below are those entries. Then a selection of 22 of the best was made for the 7th Annual Photo Show at the Sybil Andrews Cottage. Kathy Paynter was awarded Best in Show, Ruth McMonagle received the People’s Choice Award and Jan Sandholm and Nicole Girard received Honorable Mentions. These will be judged and prizes will be awarded. Prizes were donated by Photo Tech (Shoppers Row) and PJ’s Art Supplies (Willow Point). What represents “Home” to you? We have a variety of images … from your own backyard, to scenery, from street life to hiking spots. Collectively our visions of home represent a portrait as a map of our local values.
