Stories of Home – Art Workshop

Drawing home12compStories of Home is a partnership project with the Immigrant Welcome Centre of Campbell River that explores notions of home through art, food and sharing.

Using artistic expression as a process of engagement, the Stories of Home project aims to strengthen community connections and add new stories to Campbell River’s cultural map.

The memories of home of Campbell River immigrants were explored through a series of events and the creative fruits shared at community events hosted by Immigrant Welcome Centre.

Our first gathering was an Art Workshop with North Island College Instructor, Elizabeth Russell, that took place on November 5, 2013 at the Campbell River Community Centre. Using an innovative process, Elizabeth gives structure, tips and strategies that assist people with limited artistic experience create compelling visual representations of a memory from home.

The process of creation, the conversations and the memories were recorded by videographer, Sarah Kerr.

Perhaps because the event coincided with the move to winter time beach scenes from warmer lands dominated the art works created.
